Tour will start at Arzni. It is a resort village in the Kotayk Province of Armenia located on in the Hrazdan canyon. It was founded during the 19th century by Assyrian Christians who migrated to Eastern Armenia from Iran. The village is predominantly inhabited by Assyrians.
After, we will move to Dzoraghbyurvillage in same province. “Dzoraghbyur” translates roughly to English as “Canyon Fountain”. It is located 10 km east of Yerevan and 35 km south of the regional center Hrazdan.
The final part of the tour will passé in Sisian.It is a town in the southern Syunik Province, and located on Vorotan River, 6 km south of the Yerevan – Meghri highway, at a distance of 217 km from Yerevan and 115 km from Kapan. Here we will see ancient observatory Zorats Karer (Armenian Stonehenge), which is built in BC 6th millennium.
Yerevan – Dzorakhbyur village – Arzni – Yerevan
You are kindly welcome to participate in a very interesting trip throughout the crossroads of past. We leave from Yerevan at 8 o’clock to Dzorakhbyur, where on the bottom of mesozoic sea, we will meet more than 20-25 million years old crusted sea animals (ammonites, sea hedgehog, etc). It turns out that millions years ago, this area was under the sea floor. The sea was perished because of geological changes, but the wonders of the sea, hid under the sendiment and were preserved till our days. The participants will have the opportunity to do excavation themselves. Then during the small break the participants will have lunch, after they will continue their road to Arzni, where another wander of nature travertines awaits them. The travertines are mineral accumulations, which were separated from underwater for 300 thousand years and caused strong layers, which contain plant residues. The participants will also see the Elouston stairs, which which occurs as a result of the constant stream of water, this phenomenon is considered to be one of the most famous natural wanders in the world. You will also visit the surroundings of local nature; admire the beauty of the River Hrazdan. The participants will come back to Yerevan in the evening.
Yerevan – Shamb village – Sisian–Yerevan
We leave from Yerevan at 8 o’clock to ZoratsKarer (Armenian Stonehenge) ancient observatory. This is typical example of ancient, which is built in BC 6th millennium. In the most of the stones holes are carved which are precisely matched to the stars arrangement n the sky of that era. After a small break we will continue the road to Shamb village in Sisian, where you can find more than one million years old diatomic massifs which contain thousands of fossils. We will get acquainted with the past flora, will discuss the lake which existed one million years ago and the climate changes. The participants will have the opportunity to do excavation themselves. After a small break they will return to Yerevan.
The tour will be guided by professional paleontologist.
