Armenia, despite on the small size includes wide variety of habitats from dry semi-deserts to alpine meadows, which are inhabited by different species of birds. In the semi-deserts, you can find such species as: Fisch’s Wheatear, Upcher’s Warbler, in the forest areas the shelter is founded by Semi-collared Flycatcher, Medium Spotted Woodpecker, in wetlands: White-tailed Plover, White-headed Duck, in the mountain steppes the inhabitants are: Radde’s Accentor and Siberian Stonechat, while the alpine zone attracts Caspian Snowcock and Alpine Accentor, Even in the gardens one can find unusual birds, such as: Syrian woodpecker and Levant Sparrowhawk. Numerous rocky canyons provide nesting places for various predators, such as: Bearded Vulture and Long-legged Buzzard.

Yerevan City tour, including a visit to different museums (History museum, Matenadaran ancient manuscripts museum etc.).

Departure from Yerevan towards Armash fishponds, where you can observe various species of water birds, including five species of herons, White-tailed Lapwing, Marbled Teal, Ferruginous Pochard, White-headed Duck and other species of ducks, Persian Bee-eater, Menetrie’s and Paddyfield Warbler, etc.

Lunch

Afterwards, we will move to the direction of Yeghegnadzor, where will visit Noravank gorge. Here we can expect cliff specialists, as well as semi-desert birds, including the Golden Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Roller, Eastern and Western Rock Nuthatches, and others.

Yeghegnadzor – Sisian – Jermuk – Yeghegnadzor

Breakfast at the hotel.

We will visit Sisian plateau, where we expect to see Steppe and meadow birds, including the Lesser Kestrel, Rufous-tailed Rock-thrush, etc.

Lunch

After returning from the plateau, we will visit Jermuk gorge. Here again, cliff and semi-desert birds are expected to be seen, including Bearded Vulture, Blue Rock Thrush, White-throated Robin, and number of others.

Yeghegnadzor –Lake Sevan–Dilijan

Breakfast at the hotel.

We will travel to the high-mountain Lake Sevan through Selim Pass and will observe nother set of steppe and meadow birds including Ortolan Bunting, Black-headed Wagtail, Twite, etc.

After the Mountain Pass, we will visit the small lakes called Lichk in vicinity of Lake Sevan. Here we can observe various water-birds, including Ruddy Shellduck, Little Grebe, and numerous species of shorebirds that are regularly being hunted by the local pair of Goshawks. In forest plantations we can observe Mountain Chiffchaff.

Lunch

After, we will continue the ride to Dilijan, will stop on the way close to the Gull island to observe a colony of Armenian Gulls and numerous other water-birds at temporary wetlands.

Dilijan

Dilijan is called a spa town which is located in the Tavush Province of Armenia.  Usually called Armenian Switzerland or Little Switzerland by the locals, it is one of the most important resorts of Armenia, situated within the Dilijan National Park. We will ride towards the forest lake Parz Lich. Here we will focus on forest birds, including Green, Lesser and Medium Spotted Woodpeckers, Semi-collared and Red-breasted Flycatchers, Green warbler, and others.

Lunch

Later we will visit Haghartsin Monastery, to catch up the forest birds that we might miss at the first location.

Dilijan – Semyonovka Pass – Yerevan

We will travel to Yerevan through Semyonovka Pass, stopping along the way to observe the mountain meadow species, including Rosefinch, Whinchat, and others.

Lunch

The path will lay through Hrazdan River Gorge, where will stop along the way to observe various mountain-steppe birds, including Black-headed and Rock Buntings, possibly Red-fronted Serine, and others.

Yerevan – Vedi – Yerevan

Today we will travel towards town of Vedi, where will visit a unique semi-desert gorge. Here we will observe semi-desert birds, including Trumpeter Finch, Tawny Pipit, Grey-necked Bunting, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, and number of others. The gorge is regularly visited by Black and Griffon Vultures.

Yerevan – “Urtsasar” mountain – Yerevan

Today we will visit another semi-desert gorge at “Urtsasar” mountain range and will observe the semi-desert birds, including Finsch’s, Black-eared and Persian wheatears, Chukar, Woodchat Shrikes, possibly Orphean Warbler, and others.

Yerevan Botanical Garden – Garni – Yerevan

In the morning we will visit the Botanical Garden in Yerevan. Here we will observe Levant Sparrowhawk and Syrian Woodpecker. After will travel to the Garni village, and visit the canyon below the village. Here we can observe Egyptian Vultures, Red-billed Chough, Dipper, Gray Wagtail, ets.

Today we will travel to Mountain Aragats, on the way will stop at the forest to observe number of forest raptor species, including the Short-toed Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle, Booted Eagle and others. Then there will be several stops on the way to the high mountain Lake Kari. We will be able to observe various mountain-steppe and alpine species, including Radde’s and Alpine Accentors, Bluethroat, possibly Snow Finch and Crimson-winged Finch. We will visit the Amberd fortress, where various cliff birds can be observed.
