Northern Armenia includes the 3 northernmost provinces of Armenia. The western part of this region is arid, while the central and eastern parts are often lush and green, with much of Armenia’s forests. The Debed river canyon is particularly beautiful and rich in monuments, along with the rolling hills of the remote Shamshadin, centered aroundBerd, and Dilijan-Ijevan. Yerevan – Aragats mountain – Aparan – Vanadzor
A trip to the slopes of the highest mountain of Armenia – Aragats (Province of Aragatsotn) observing entomofauna of different landscape-belts from semi-desert to mountain steppe. Some entomological observations along Aragats – Aparan – Vanadzor road (available insect species: beetles (Trechusinfus catus, Philomessor kalashiani, Ctenicer apectinicornis, Mylabris sedilithorax, Armenohelops armeniacus, Cylindronotus erivanus, Cerambyx cerdoacuminatus, etc.); butterflies (Parnassius Mnemosyne rjabovi, Papilio alexanor orientalis, Artogeia bowdeni, Colias aurorina, Maculinea alconmonticola, Agrodiaetus eriwanensis, Hyleshippophae scaucasica, Proserpinus proserpina, etc.) Historical – architectural site – Amberd fortress ruins (9-14th centuries). Then visit of contemporary Armenian monument – Stony Letters of Armenian alphabet.

“Dilijan” National Park – Ijevan–Dilijan
Visit of typical for Northern Armenia broad-leaved forests (beech, oak, etc.) and Juniper light forest with typical for Caucasian entomofauna species composition.

Visit to Historic Center of Dilijan town (optional). Trip to Shorzha (Artanish peninsula of Lake Sevan) via Chambarak (available option – visit of Gosh village). Landscapes available for observations – forest, steppe, subalpine meadows, coastal ecosystems of the Lake Sevan.

Walk and observations on the slopes of Artanish peninsula and in the coastal ecosystems of Sevan lake. Trip to Sevan peninsula. Then trip to Tsaghkadzor.

Visit to the cableway of Tsaghkadzor; visit to the Mt. Alibek. Observing landscapes – broad -leaved forests, sub-alpine and alpine meadows.

Tsaghkadzor – Aghveran Gorge – Yerevan
Visit to Aghveran Gorge near Arzakan village. The gorge is one of the most popular sites for insect watching and collecting. Landscapes available for observations – forest, light forest, steppe, phrygana, etc.
